Life's Like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a fun, pirate popcorn movie. It is what it's supposed to be. Although, my favorite was still the first one. Still, I had a great time watching this one. It's been a fun ride of Pirate movies so far!

The logline: Captain Jack Sparrow gets roped into the hunt for the fountain of youth. Swashbuckling and pirate-y good fun ensues.

Life's Like A Movie because:

Well, in the movie, mermaid tears were part of the key to the fountain of youth. In reality, I think it has a lot more to do with puppy tears.

But, how do you get a puppy to cry?

Taunt them with promises of treats... Hey, Pavlov did it and got the dogs to salivate:

Hold a toy above their reach:

Promise to take them for a walk:

No, I can't do it. I just can't do it! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! She's just too cute!!!!!! It's the ears! It's the ears I tell you! They just make her too adorable to taunt!

This is what really happens just after the taunting photos are taken....

Dog gets treat:

Dog gets toy:

Dog gets walk:

She's just sooo cute when she's happy! And, yeah, I'm a sucker. I mean, seriously, puppies are too cute to be sad. It's way better to stay young at heart and hug a puppy:

Seriously. I may never get the fountain of youth to work for me...but at least I'll have the unconditional love of my dog and maybe that's worth more. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay more.

Life's Like Animated Disney Movies

Animated Disney movies always make me smile. They're just fun and carefree and maybe, just maybe they remind me of being a kid.

That, being said, here are my favorites:

The Little Mermaid - My  absolute, all time favorite! The songs are great and catchy and the story is super fun.  Plus, it's about a mermaid who just wants to follow her dreams above the sea and become human! And, the romance...

Sleeping Beauty - I grew up on this one and can remember singing - "Once Upon a Dream" as I played with my barbie dolls. The animation is definitely dated, but it's amazing if you think about the fact that it's hand drawn. Still a good movie.

Beauty and the Beast -Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast. The songs are great, just like in The Little Mermaid. Besides, I think a part of me just loves this movie because Belle loves books just about as much as I do!

Aladdin - I love orphans and Aladdin is about a street rat kid, so of course it's on my list! Plus, Robin Williams is super fun as the Genie. And, again, the songs in this one are great! I even went to see Aladdin on ice when they were doing it because I liked this movie so much!

The Lion King - For awhile this seemed like the last great one. It had a great story, with a lot of heart, and I cried. It's one I haven't seen in a long time, though, so I'll have to check it out again.

Mulan - I always love stories about girls pretending to be boys to bypass the system and show them all how much they rock! I know it's not one of the best movies, but I really enjoyed it! So, it's on my list!

Tangled - The latest of the Disney animation films. I really enjoyed it. It was a little dark, so I wouldn't recommend it for little, little kids - it might scare them, but I had a fun time watching it. And, it reminded me of something - fairytale endings do come true - and okay, maybe only in a kid's movie, but hey, I'd like to be optimistic. It was a fun, happy ending and I'm hoping for many more movies like this in the near future!

Upcoming Movies I am super excited about!!!!!! There's some good ones for this summer 2011 and beyond -

Super 8 - It's out this past weekend - 6/10/2011! I am super excited. It feels like it's going to be like an old Spielberg film...except spiced up by JJ Abrams. It looks like it's going to be a fun adventure. Can't wait to run out and see it this weekend!!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2) - Comes out 7/15/11. It's another movie I'm super excited about just because I've seen all the other Harry Potter movies and read all the books. And, this is it! The big battle between good and evil and I can't wait. Although, it will be sad once it's done. I love Harry Potter.

Breaking Dawn (Part 1) - Comes out 11/18/11. Another book series turned super hit film franchise. I read all the Twilight books too and have seen all the movies. It's just a fun series and who doesn't love vampires and werewolves and teen angst? Well, and this one is the beginning of the end too. Bella! Edward! Jacob!

Cowboys and Aliens - Comes out 7/19/11. Harrison Ford AND Daniel Craig AND aliens? I'm there! It sounds like a fun popcorn action movie and perfect for the movies! I can't wait! Let the aliens land!

One Day - Comes out 8/19/11. Another book turned movie. Heard the book is great and hope to read it before the movie comes out. Sounds like an intriguing romance.... And, I definitely love the romance movies!

And, of course....

The Muppets (2011) - Comes out 11/23/11. I'm soooo excited! I love the muppets! Being that the title of this blog is taken from a Muppet's song! They're fun for all ages! Can't wait! And, it has Amy Adams and Jason Segel - coolness!

Life's Like Kid Movies

Kid Movies are fun. I'll admit it. I like them even though I'm an adult. Hey, I have a whole blog about life being like a movie...I'm kind of a kid at heart.

So, in honor of loving kid movies, here are my top five, in no particular order:

The Little Mermaid (1989) - Ariel, the mermaid, wants to become a human. Singing and musical numbers ensue.

Under the sea, under the sea.... I can't help singing...

Annie (1982) - Little Orphan Annie wants to be part of a family. Singing also ensues.

It's a hardnock life for us... I used to know the entire movie by heart. There was just something about orphan movies. Orphans were HUGE in the 1980s.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009) - Flint Lockwood always wanted to be a famous inventor and he definitely invents something unusual! This movie is actually pretty funny - I totally enjoyed it!

And, it's not a musical! It just makes me giggle. And, it was a book first. Go read it!

Up  (2009) - Carl always dreamed of adventure, but he had long since given up after his wife's death. So, as an old man, he is surprised, when adventure finds him.

I cried in the first fifteen minutes. I admit it. I've never seen a love story so well put in such a short period of time. And, it has a great message. It's never too late to have a great adventure! So, seize the day and go have one already!

How To Train Your Dragon (2010) - A young viking with no skills happens upon a dragon and tries a new approach - instead of killing it, he trains it!

Another fun kids adventure movie - full of action, suspense, and believing in yourself. Also, a book first! Read, read, read!

Life's Like Scary Movies

My top five scary movies, in honor of Scream 4 coming out to theaters!

Scream. They made fun of horror movies - genius! It was funny AND scary!!!!! Can't wait to see Scream 4!

Nightmare on Elm Street (the original). Besides starring a young Johnny Depp...what a great idea - a crazed killer stalking you in your dreams!!!! You HAVE to go to sleep sometime!

Halloween
(the original with Jamie Lee Curtis). It's just such a well done horror movie.

The Shining
(the original with Jack Nicholson). I love Stephen King and was so fascinated by The Shining that I actually went to Estes Park, CO and went to the hotel where Stephen King got the idea - The Stanley Hotel!

The Watcher in the Woods.
Okay, this one's out of left field, but seriously, it's the first movie that I remember scaring me... It's an old Disney movie. It probably doesn't hold up, but when I was nine...scary!

But wait...there's more:

Life's Like Comic Book Movies

Comic book movies seem set to explode this summer - from Thor, to the Green Lantern to the Green Hornett to X-Men First Class.

I'll admit it, I'm not an avid comic reader...but I love the movies! They're fun, with great characters, fantastic villans, and all in all great adventures. And, then there are also the ones I forget about - that are really dark or about regular people - but those are great too!!!! Comics rock!

So, in honor of comic book movie summer (can't wait for Green Lantern and X-Men!), here are my top five favorite comic book movies:

X-Men. the original from 2000. Watch the trailer below. FYI - The comic X-Men first appeared in 1963 and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

The Dark Knight. Watch the trailer below. Although, I do admit to enjoying some of the earlier Batman movies...just not Batman and Robin, which I consider one of the worst movies EVER. FYI - The comic Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939 and was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.

The Crow. Watch the trailer below. FYI - The comic was first published in 1989 and was created by James O'Barr, who wrote it as a way to deal with the death of his girlfriend.

Ghost World. Watch the trailer below. FYI - The comic was written and illustrated by Daniel Clowes and first published in book form in 1997.

Superman (1978 version). Watch the trailer below. And, I've also liked the TV versions from Lois and Clark to Smallville. FYI - Comic Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1932 and sold to Detective Comics Inc in 1938.

P.S. I've also enjoyed The Iron Man movies, The Hulk, Hellboy, Sin City...see, I can go on and on and on about comic book movies!
