Life's Like The Amityville Horror (1979 version)

Movie #8: The Amityville Horror (1979 version)

The Amityville Horror (1979 version) was actually kind of a boring horror movie. Although, maybe it's just dated. I haven't seen the Ryan Reynolds version from a few years back, also entitled The Amityville Horror, but from 2005. Maybe that one is scarier. This one just had a lot of spooky things happening, but nothing you could really see. Some horror movies do that fantastically, don't get me wrong. This one just dragged in places. Then again, it was also a little weird to see Louis Lane (Margot Kidder) from Supermanin a horror movie. Still, it's almost Halloween, so it was worth a shot watching an old horror film.

The general gist of the movie is: Newlyweds and their kids move into a house where a family was murdered and strange things start to happen. It's supposedly based on a true story.

Now, I have never seen any ghosts. Yet. I don't discount them, though. I have had a few strange things happen.

The most recent is this. Lately, at night, I've been hearing this sound:

video

Weird, huh? Yeah. Especially since I've been asleep. Turns out the sound is being caused by this:

This is my plastic pink pig. He's not alive. He does make noise, but only if you press a button or turn him upside down. I am not pressing a button or turning him upside down in the middle of the night. Yet, here and there...he starts making noises. Ghost? Or just a malfunction?  I'll let you decide....

Life's Like Letters To Juliet

Movie #7: Letters to Juliet

Letters to Juliet is a perfect romantic movie for a girl's night in. Sigh... The general gist of it is: An American Girl goes to Italy and visits a Verona courtyard where people leave letters to Juliet of Romeo and Juliet. A group of women answers these letters and the American Girl partakes in answering one. Then, the adventure begins...

It actually makes me want to go see Juliet's courtyard in Verona, Italy. How cool that it's real?!?!?! I know Juliet is a fictional character, but still. I mean, it's kind of romantic anyway thinking about all of those people visiting that place and dreaming, pining, regretting, and celebrating their loves or lost loves. Wow. And, secretaries do really answer those letters! Sigh....

So, for this movie, I decided to write my own letter. I know that in the movie it was about writing for romantic advice, but the movie was also all about finding love and keeping it, so I wrote a loooooove letter to my fiance.  I've never written him a real one before. I mean, that's what Facebook is for, right? And, before that Myspace and Friendster. Or email. Or IM. Or text.

So, yeah, I've never written him a real love letter. And, this is the real deal.

Here it is...sealed with a kiss:

What? You thought I was going to let you read it? Um, no. The gushy stuff is for his eyes only. And, if you notice - appropriately placed on his keyboard.

Life's Like The Jerk

Movie #6: The Jerk

The Jerk with Steve Martin is one of those movies that I've heard about for forever and never seen. I knew it was Steve Martin's first feature film and I love a lot of his 80s comedies, but I'd never gotten around to it. And, it is pretty funny. It's a screwball comedy - sort of a rags to riches deal, but totally ridiculous. I mean, Steve Martin, at the beginning is from an all black family (of course later we find out he was left on the doorstep - and his response to this, by the way, is hilarious - you mean I'm going to stay this color?)

This movie has shooters, barking dogs, crazy women, lots of money, poverty...so yeah, there was a lot to choose from for how my life is like this one, so I just staged this:

Okay and for some weird reason I can't turn it. So... Yeah, sideways it stays.

Compare me to the  The Jerk Movie Poster:

Life's Like The Secret of Kells

Movie #6: The Secret of Kells

The Secret of Kells is a unique animated tale. It was up for an Academy Award actually, as an fyi. And, I really enjoyed it. The animation is different and quite artistically beautiful to watch. As to the story, it's a nice fable of a boy with a quest involving an ancient book, a mystical girl, and his own determination to follow his path despite the obstacles in front of him. I recommend it.

Anyway, for today's movie, I too found green ink like the boy in the movie and started to draw...

I let my imagination take flight...

And,  the ink turned blue...

And, then orange...

And, then red...

And back to green...

What story would this picture hold...

Lines running across time...

True love...

Wishes coming true...

Magic...

And, good luck...

Fun, huh?

* Check out The Secret of Kells on IMDB.

* And, Movie #6 almost wasn't The Secret of Kells, by the way. My guy and I watched the first 50 minutes of Wet Hot American Summer, which I had already seen but for some reason he really wanted to see. So, we watched and my guy got really bored. I was just kinda bored. It's a campy making fun of camp movie with no real plot...pretty much like Meatballs. Some people love that stuff. Anyway, we decided to switch movies. Later I found out that my guy had only wanted to see it because it was on Michael Cera's (of Juno and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World fame) top 10 list or something on tumblr. See, celebs do have power. And, luckily, we were able to find The Secret of Kells streaming on Netflix. Anyway, here's the trailer for Wet Hot American Summer:

Life's Like E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (20th Anniversary Edition)

Movie #5: E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial (20th Anniversary Edition)

E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (20th Anniversary Edition) was a fun one that I rewatched last night. I hadn't seen the added clips before in this edition (In my opinion, they aren't necessary though and don't add much, although they're fun) and it was amusing to see the walkie talkies instead of guns.

It's still such a great movie. Eliot and E.T.'s friendship is still as engaging as it was when I was a kid and watching it for the first time. It even made me want Reese's Pieces. I almost went out and bought some. Almost. And, I admit to being sniffly and teary when they find E.T. in the ditch. I can't help it!

Anyway, since I didn't have Reese's Pieces at home to lay out and see what type of man or beast or extra terrestrial would come and find me, I used dog treats instead. And, here's what happened:

Ok, it was tooootally staged. I'll admit it, but she's my E.T. And, I had to, of course get this pic:

I hope this E.T. will stick around with us for awhile.

* Another extraterrestrial movie I haven't seen in eons is Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Wow, that has a 30th edition! Craaaaazy! :

Life's Like Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure

Movie #3: Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure

Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure is an excellent 80s comedy movie. It's about two dudes, who are about to flunk their high school history class and to prevent them from doing so (because of the impact on the future of the entire world) a guy from the future comes to let them use his bodacious phone booth time machine so that they can learn about history from the real deal - from Napolean to Joan of Arc to Abraham Lincoln. It's a fun movie. I saw it as a kid and it still makes me laugh now. Party on, dudes!

Now, I could have made a time machine and gone back in time to see a bunch of cool old dudes, but well, I decided to go the Keanu route this time. A young Keanu Reeves plays Ted (of Bill & Ted, don't know what happened to Bill). What is the Keanu Route? Well, the theory is that his acting is the same in all of his movies (and Keanu, btw, I like you and so don't care), so anyway, my thought is that I can choose any of them to make a blog post about regardless of the Keanu movie I watch. So, this time I chose Point Break...and to commemorate it into my life, I went to see Point Break Live! at a local theater.

Whaaaaaaaaaat? Yes, that is correct. They have turned the movie Point Break into a live interactive theatrical production. The cool thing is...they choose Johnny Utah (Keanu's part) from the audience...and he reads his lines from cue cards held by another actor. And, there's also a lot of interactivity...like fake blood, water, actors running up to you and telling you to hit the ground because this is a bank robbery. All in good fun, of course!

In fact, this is what we looked like going to see the play:

That was before all the water and fake blood started spraying. Although, with that cap gun, my guy got to participate in the goings on and play a cop. Coolness. Great interactive play. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you wear a poncho. You really get messy. Blood and water everywhere.

Okay, until tomorrow, in the word's of Bill & Ted: Be excellent to each other. Party on, dudes!

* And, of course who can forget the sequel to Bill & Ted's Excelent Adventure - Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey:

* Wait!!!! And, you can't forget the totally excellent news that a THIRD Bill & Ted movie is in the works! What? I know!!!! Dude!!!! Check out this news article from MTV.com where the Writer Alex Winter confirms it!

Life's Like The Big Sleep

Movie #2: The Big Sleep

The Big Sleep is a classic detective mystery staring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. I've never seen it, although I do like Humphrey Bogart. I've been meaning to see more classics and this was a famous one that I found on my netflix instant, so I hit play and watched. This movie takes so many twists and turns that it's crazy - I mean, the movie felt over about an hour in and then it takes another twist. I won't give the ending away, don't worry. I will say this, though, the dialogue is great fun with great witty repartee between Bogart and Bacall. I miss that kind of movie dialogue in today's movies.

So, how is my life like this movie? Oh, it's not really, but interestingly enough as I was watching the movie, the following events happened:

A sock was murdered right there on our living room floor:

Now, my first suspect was my dog Licorice. She was on the couch looking innocent. She told me that she was with the Cat and couldn't have done it. I was suspicious. I told Licorice I planned to ask the Cat.

And, the Cat backed up Licorice's alibi. They were together. That seemed a little fishy since they don't like each other much, so I had to investigate further. I decided to go and see Kermit The Frog...he sits high above the room and must have seen something.

Kermit the Frog said he didn't see anything. He had been too busy playing with his new Star Trek blaster gun...but he thought the Love Bear Dog might know something.

So, I talked to the Love Bear Dog and he told me all I needed to know... He had taken pictures with his new ipod touch and everything!

Dundadundun.

And, the murderer is...

Aha! My gut instinct was right! Licorice ate the sock and murdered it. The Love Bear Dog caught her in the act:

And, then to cover it up and get her alibi, she coerced the Cat...

Crime solved!!!! Until the next time...

* And, another  mystery I'm looking forward to, although not a classic,  is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I read the book, but have yet to see the Swedish film (I know they're making a US version, but the Swedish one is supposed to be great!!!):
