Movie #11: Rebecca
Rebecca
is a movie I always meant to see, after I read the book by Daphne DuMauier
. I've never gotten around to reading the book and when it popped up on my netflix cue, I just decided - yes, I'm just going to watch the movie! I wasn't sure what to expect - I knew it was sort of a gothic romance suspense. And, it is pretty interesting, although a bit dated and not really like what I'd think of as a Alfred Hitchcock
movie even though he directed it. Still, now I do want to read the book.
The gist: An innocent girl marries a man she barely knows, only to find that his life and home is still haunted by the memory of his dead wife, Rebecca.
How's my life like this movie?
Well, I don't have any ghostly memories haunting me like the dead Rebecca haunts the movie heroine, but for Licorice, it's a different story.
There are the pets that have come before:
Sasha - a bichon frise. She liked to snuggle and get her way.
Dillon - a Blue Heeler. He was loyal to the core and always obedient.
Belle - a fluffy puppy. Okay, I can't remember her breed, but she sure was pretty and sweet and gentle.
And, now, into my life, there's Licorice, although it's understandable if she's haunted by those that have come before, especially when she does something like this:
But, I still love her.

* Check out Rebecca on IMDB.
* Jane Eyre
reminds me a little of Rebecca, same general gothic feel and in both there's a secret about the head of the house. And, I'm excited about the new movie version of Jane Eyre coming out. Although the Jane Eyre 2006 Masterpiece Theater version
was the best one I've seen so far.
Here's the trailer for the new one coming out in 2011:
