The muppets once sang - "Life's like a movie, write your own ending, keep believing, keep pretending!" So, I am. This blog is all about how my life is like a movie...and how I love movies! Well, me and my cute dog Licorice, that is - she's my sidekick on these grand adventures!
Ah, Arnold. He's awesome. There is no action movie star quite like him. And, yet, he's also had a few great comedies, like Twins, Jingle All the Way, and Kindergarten Cop (okay, that one has action too!)
I remember the first Arnold movie I ever watched. I was in junior high and I was sleeping over at a friend's house. She had Terminator 2 on VHS. I had never much been into action movies and although I knew who Arnold was...I didn't really care. Terminator 2 changed all that. It was a fantastic movie - full of action, Eddie Furlong was cute (and great), and Arnold was a fantastic Terminator. I hadn't seen the original and we went out and rented it. They were such good movies! I've been an Arnold fan ever since. Although, I still think Terminator 2 is my absolute favorite.
Fright Night is actually a great movie to watch for Halloween. It's campy 1980s and not really scary, but a fun movie overall - great to watch with friends.
Quick Synopsis: 1980s movie about a teenager who thinks a vampire is living next door, but nobody believes him.
My Life's Like This Movie: In the movie, the main character, Jerry finds the television show host of a horror TV series named Peter Vincent to help him fight the vampires.
So, I thought about it, which television show host would I pick to help me fight vampires.
But she'd be a seriously terrible ally - I mean, she's great at being sexy and cheesy, but I can't see her actually fighting a vampire. She looks like she might be afraid to break a nail.
If I went with someone similar to who Jerry went with in the movie - Peter Vincent, I'd go with Vincent Price, a well known horror actor and tv show host (for more info check Vincent Price out on wikipedia). He can be creepy enough to scare off any vampire:
And, I mean, he can even be funny - which is important when you're fighting vampires (gotta keep that sense of humor and all!), here's Vincent with the Muppets:
But...Vincent Price died in 1993, so unless I wanted to resurect him from the dead...which gives me zombie problems in addition to vampire problems...he's a dead end.
So, I need to think out of the box - tv show hosts in general. There's a ton of them: Oprah, Jay Leno, Jeff Probst (Survivor), Ellen, The View ladies, and the list goes on and on and on.
So, I pondered and I searched youtube and google thinking about my question.
He's creative, funny (again, sense of humor is super important when it's life or death or vampires), thinks outside of the box, isn't afraid of getting fired, he does his own stunts, and he's really tall with crazy red hair (very imposing). Definitely the guy I'd want standing next to me when I go after vampires.
So, here's my artistic depiction of me and Conan OBrien fighting vampires, if I ever need him to help me out:
I really think Conan could kick ass fighting vampires. Just saying.
Red is a movie that I might not have seen except that a friend and I randomly decided to go see it because her only other choice was a movie that looked depressing and I wanted to see something fun. And, I really enjoyed it - it's funny, full of action, and a fun adventure/hit/comedy movie with a fun romance added in.
The gist: A former black ops agent (Bruce Willis) gets a hit put out on him and has to reassemble his old team and protect the girl he loves.
How's my life like this movie? Licorice and I play our own game of spy versus spy.
Licorice sleeps on the couch, but she is always on the alert, like any good spy.
Her task - to keep safe the famed golden lobster. Hey, it may not look gold, but that's how she keeps it safe. She's one smart puppy!
I decide to sneak in for the steal...
Licorice, suddenly weary, moves positions, onto the ottoman slightly closer to the golden lobster. Just in case...
We both lunge for it! A struggle ensues!!!!
Licorice comes away victorious! The golden lobster is hers for another day!
At least, this is the way we look at things at our house.
* I saw another "retired" action stars type movie with Sylvester Stalone a few months ago that was totally different in feel, but that for some reason I associate with Red called - The Expendables:
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is one of those movies that I heard hype about as a book before I even saw the movie. This is the Swedish version (I know they're making an American one right now). So, I read the book by Steig Larsson first and am in the process of reading the sequels (before I ever see the movies). The books are excellent and so was this, the first movie, even if they did have to cut some things out.
The gist: A disgraced newspaper reporter named Bloomkvist takes a job writing a family biography for a wealthy family, but he's really been hired to find out what happened to the head of the family's niece who disappeared over 40 years ago. He's aided by the girl with the dragon tattoo, Lisbeth Salander.
How's my life like this movie? There is no current murder mystery that I've been hired to investigate, but I did decide to give myself a dragon tattoo today:
Neat, huh? Now I'm just as cool as Lisbeth Salander (the girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
* With this movie, you definitely have to check out the sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire. Shhh...I'm still reading the book, but I will definitely be checking out the movie
